Who we are

FAMILY BEHAVIORAL
SERVICES
Family Behavioral Services was founded in 2016.  The founders Rodney Prat, B.S.N. and Hector Hernandez MBA, RIMHC, MS in Applied Behavior Analysis, CBHCM-S, with more than 20 years of combined experience in the healthcare industry setting in South Florida.  Mr. Prat and Mr. Hernandez recognized that a vast majority of the behavioral health services offered were lacking in quality and availability.  In 2016, they opened a community mental health center (CMHC).  Family Behavioral Services provided community and office based behavioral health services in Dade County.

Program Mission

It is the mission of Family Behavioral Services to assist and work closely with individuals who exhibit impairment due to behavioral health issues, and with their families and significant others to ensure that they have access to the full array of needed and appropriate services and resources available in the community.

Additionally, it is the mission of our personnel to ensure that as the needs of such individuals change, the services and resources shall change to address these needs. Through such responsiveness, it is the purpose of our AGENCY to empower these individuals to live a life which is personally meaningful and self-directed to the fullest extent of their capabilities, to reduce or eliminate their needs for institutionalization, hospitalization, or incarceration, and/or to enhance their quality of life.

Our Vision

The vision of Family Behavioral Services is to ensure that quality treatment/services exist within the community for adults, adolescents, children, and families in need of behavioral health services.

We offer a continuum of services to the South Florida community including Dade and Broward Counties. Our desire is to demonstrate that caring for a community is the responsibility of compassionate and competent professionals.  Our intent is to create an alliance with the public and private sector, raising the quality of services for persons served and engaging the entire community in the protection of our most vulnerable citizens.

It is our philosophy that developing and maintaining an individual’s independence will facilitate adjustment and integration within their living environment and community. In keeping with this philosophy, we empower persons served and their family members/guardian to make decisions about their care, which we believe will produces better outcomes.

We believe that communities will embrace individuals who are seeking to regain their independence and aid in their journeys and assist with educational and emotional support.  Our organizational framework allows us to help these individuals in regaining their independence and to help them to better cope with their behavioral health issues in accordance with national best practices.

We believe that individuals served by our agency should be treated no differently than any other and that they should have the best that life has to offer in all aspects of their social, emotional, physical, educational, cultural, and spiritual development.

Targeted Case Management (TCM)

Helping Kids Thrive in Challenging Situations

Targeted case managers work with both children and adults to manage multiple resources for clients with Medicaid that have a significant and persistent mental health diagnosis. TCM ensure continuity of care for our clients through needs assessments, individualize service plans, program monitoring, and follow-up. In addition, target case manager provide linkage to community resources to help meet the needs of the client in areas such as health, housing, economics, educational, vocational, and other basic and social needs of our clients.

TCM is a service delivery model that provides comprehensive and coordinated care for children and their families. It focuses on the child’s needs and uses a team approach to link and coordinates the community's appropriate services. TCM is an effective way to ensure that children and their families receive the services necessary to meet their needs and that a comprehensive plan is in place for their care.

Targeted Case Management (TCM) for children and adolescents offers several beneficial outcomes for those receiving services. The main benefits of TCM include the following:

  • Improved access to appropriate services and resources - TCM helps to ensure that children and their families are connected to the services and resources they need to improve their overall health and well-being.
  • Improved communication - TCM helps to bridge communication gaps between families, providers, and community resources, which can help to ensure the most effective and efficient delivery of services to the child.
  • Improved coordination of services - TCM helps to ensure that services are coordinated and tailored to meet the needs of the individual child and that services are provided most appropriately and cost-effectively.
  • Improved advocacy and support - TCM helps to ensure that the child’s best interests are considered and that the child and family receive the support and advocacy they need.
  • Improved outcomes - TCM helps to ensure that positive outcomes are achieved for the child and family. This includes improved social, emotional, physical, and educational functioning.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Unlocking the Potential of Every Child

ABA therapy is used to help individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder learn how to communicate, interact with others, and gain independence in everyday life. ABA also teaches individuals how to manage difficult behaviors, such as aggression, tantrums, and self-injury.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) offers numerous benefits to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. The main benefits of ABA include the following:

  • Improved communication - ABA helps to improve communication skills and to teach individuals how to communicate more effectively.
  • Improved social skills - ABA helps to improve an individual’s social skills, such as making friends, interacting with others, and engaging in appropriate conversation.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

ABA therapy is based on the principles of behavior and learning, which focus on the idea that behavior results from its consequences.

The intake process is the starting point of admissions to all programs, and this evaluation helps to target areas of need in biological, psychological, and social arenas for all new clients. Screenings and assessments are provided to all individuals seeking care for themselves and/or family members. All assessments are conducted by a qualified mental health professional and who then referred for the appropriate services.

Co-parenting counseling

We offer co-parenting counseling sessions to assist two parties have a child or children together but do not cohabitate. We guide them in improving their skills and enhancing their ability to parent in a joint and cooperative manner for the best interest of the minor(s).

We offer weekly psychotherapy services (talk therapy) in which a trained professional helps individuals and/or family work through personal issues to manage symptoms of distress and/or improve symptoms that affect the overall well-being of an individual. A master treatment plan is developed in conjunction with the client to clarify goals the client would like to achieve.

Mental health targeted case management (TCM)

This designation allows Family Behavioral Services employees to provide services to children in the public-school system, as well as collaborate and communicate onsite with teachers and administrators for the designated child.

Psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adolescents and adults

Psychiatric evaluations, medication management and pharmacological interventions are provided for adolescents and/or adult clients in need of psychotropic intervention for mental health issues.

Psychosocial rehabilitation services (PSR) (group sessions)

Our psychosocial rehabilitation program (psr) program consists of group sessions designed for adults who are diagnosed with a mental health disorders and who experiences symptoms that result in functional impairments in major life activities.  We provide psr services in both English and Spanish.
PSR provides education to group members about mental health illness, fiscal responsibility, pandemic concerns, appropriate medication management, social and interpersonal skills, as well as relapse prevention. Groups are designed to teach and promote independent living skills in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.

Telehealth – individual & group (new)

Our agency is currently providing services via telehealth. Telehealth services allow our clients to access mental health care services remotely and manage their health care needs via communication technologies such as computers tablets and/or mobile devices.

Therapeutic behavioral on-site services (TBOS) (in home, office, or school)

TBOS is a more intensive level of therapy for children that have more complex needs. This higher level of intervention includes developmental and/or behavioral assessments in order to define, delineate and evaluate treatment needs. Implementation and monitoring a behavior management plan is needed to prevent clients from requiring a higher level of care.

Therapeutic supervised visitation (TSV)

Our agency provides therapeutic supervised visitation which allows parent or legal guardian separated from their children to visit in a safe and appropriate environment. Therapeutic supervised visitation (tsv), involves a mental health professional monitoring interaction between the parent and child, providing psycho education to the visiting parent if needed. Additionally, the mental health professional is able to work with the visiting parent or legal guardian in addressing issues that may be preventing them from properly bonding or interacting with their children.
